Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes

A lazy day of the 2020 quarantine. Got up early and finished doing all the things. Decided to take a nap but as usual took the phone and started scrolling. One story popped up on Instagram, it was a reshared reel that was the title track of the show. The user said, ‘I feel bad for those who are missing this masterpiece’. I wondered what this masterpiece could be about.

I watched one episode. There were a total of 5 episodes released in dub at that time, and the rest were in Japanese. The moment I finished watching the first episode, I knew why this show was being called a masterpiece. I was stunned by the storyline of the show.

To be honest, I seriously thought this show was gonna be a rivalry-type show. Rivalry for a girlfriend being killed by one guy, someone taking revenge for it, that's it. But as we go further through the story, we realise that this is something else. The depth of emotions this show gives is mesmerising...The authenticity in love, friendship, bromance!

Besides the main character Takemichi never gives up on his goal, How he is in a situation, where he can't seek help from anyone, and how his mates, and partners indirectly support him. How he gets to learn new things from the people who are supposedly his enemies.

If you are a person who likes watching human values portrayed, whether you are an action anime fan or a Ramance anime fan, this show is going to be your favourite show for sure. Every character in the show is best in their way.

(mild spoilers ahead)

For me, the real show starts when the main character finds out who his real rival is. The main goal of the main character might have been decided previously, but how it changes/improvises as time goes by, is something that holds us to the main narrative. As the main character meets new people, the storyline gets more engaging as well as interesting.

The main character's revolutionary change is something that inspires. It's not only the one power that has been gifted to him, there are many more things that he does that help him to get better. The acceptance of who he is, the willingness to make a change, the belief in himself. There are many things he implements in his life, making us believe that you don't need to have a supernatural power to do something extraordinary.

I believe this show ‘Tokyo Revengers’ starts by motivating us indirectly saying - Nothing changes if nothing changes!
